Is Regular Chiropractic Care Necessary?

Fortunately, I’m not going to recommend you come in 7 days a week for the rest of your life.

When people come to me, it’s often because they have been experiencing pain for months or even years. Because of this, it often takes time to return the body to a healthy state. Unfortunately, most people are used to receiving a medication or shot that can help them feel better in the short term, but doesn’t address the underlying problem. My goal is to identify the underlying dysfunction and fix it so the source of the pain goes away and is not simply masked.

Some common underlying problems usually involve dysfunctional movement patterns, poor mobility, and/or a strength deficiency, each preventing the joints from moving properly. When this happens, it puts stress on the nervous system and creates compensation patterns in the body. Because of this, pain occurs.

Fixing the source of the pain can take time, and everyone is different. After I first meet with people, I outline a plan for how long their recovery will take and how much it will cost. Typically, the visits are more frequent initially, and then taper off as the underlying problem is being fixed. This could take a couple weeks or it could take a few months, depending on the severity of the underlying problem.

After the underlying issue has been resolved, I do recommend that people come in on a somewhat regular basis to make sure they stay healthy and their bodies are operating at 100%. The frequency really depends on your activity level, work habits, nutritional habits, and stress levels, but usually is around once per month.

I like to think of it as doing regular maintenance on your body, just like you would on your car. If you don’t take care of the problem regularly, it could come back, which would then cause you to have to go through a whole new round of care to get back to healthy again. Not only is this more expensive, it also creates pain for you where it could have been avoided. It’s better to keep everything working once we’ve re-established your health, just as it’s better to get regular dental cleanings rather than wait to have root canals!

Like I mentioned earlier, I give everyone I meet with a plan tailored to their specific needs. Along with this, I let them know how much it’s going to cost. In the current healthcare system, I believe there are too many hidden costs. Because of this, I try my best to be up front and honest about what you need, what you don’t need, and how much it will cost. I will give you the information you need to make a decision and from there, it’s up to you.
